ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil is a non-profit youth organisation, founded in 2001 in Oeiras Council, based in Vila Fria (Porto Salvo) and carries out projects that aim the occupation of free time at the same time that gives the chance to young people to promote their active participation by taking part in European youth projects and in local voluntary activities.
ProAtlântico develops its work based in partnership with local Social Care organisations like Foster Homes, Support Centers for People with Disabilities, Senior Daily Centers offering the chance to their target groups to take part in the projects.
ProAtlântico started to develop activities in a local level like sports tournaments, National and International exchanges, Summer Camps, Youth Centre, entertaining and cultural activities, animation of school breaks and as educational support after school for children and young people. Soon, came the challenge to work with seniors and with people with disabilities in Summer Camps, New Year’s Eve, cultural trips and weekend leisure time activities.
In 2003, ProAtlântico started to work with Youth Programme and since then offered the chance to hundreds of young people to take part in several youth exchanges, training courses and seminars around Europe and soon after became a coordinator of youth exchanges in Portugal.
ProAtlântico is a sending, receiving and coordinating organisation in EVS that hosted and sent volunteers from different regions of the world: Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Since 2007, ProAtlântico actively promotes Youth in Action Programme mainly about Youth Exchanges and EVS among young people in schools.
Today ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil with his 10.000 members, gives special attention to people with fewer opportunities to have the chance to easily access to leisure time activities carried out by young volunteers and promote the value of volunteering and active participation in society.
ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil is a youth organisation that promotes active participation in society based on voluntary work among young people and aims to develop their personal, social and professional skills through non formal education.
Based on this principle, ProAtlântico decided to jump to a European level in 2003 through Youth Programme, especially taking part on Youth Exchanges, Seminars and Training Courses mainly as participants. In 2004, ProAtlântico became coordinator of youth exchanges in Portugal and took part in approximately 150 youth exchanges in the past 10 years. Since 2007 ProAtlântico started to send, host and coordinate EVS projects, gathering the participation of 600 volunteers.
